Restore
"Restore" talks about restoration in the Lord, our relationships, and our identity. Where do I place my trust? The rock formation as the album cover is a reference to Psalm 61:1 to "lead to the Rock that is higher than I." "You Are" says it plainly, "I am searching, You are loving, fill my heart again."
Restore is a first in a couple of ways. It is the first time I cowrote a song with my son, Bailey. I had two musicians sit on the project as well, Rick Hughes on drums and Coby Carter on fiddle. The track Coby is featured, "Resting," was written for a dear friend who passed from this life in 2013. In fact, Kevin spoke the chorus "resting sweetly, peacefully in the Lord" hours before his passing. It's a powerful reminder of our rest in Jesus Christ.

The Ascent
"The Ascent," is more than praise and worship. It is my personal testimony through song. If you pay close attention throughout the entire album you will see my journey from "runaway" - I can't save you if you run away - to "if that isn't love" - a proclamation of the redemptive power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
One track in particular, "silent roar" was written while my father's health was failing. Even in his weakness, he continued to show us Jesus' grace, mercy, and power - in Him he was made strong.

Until Now...
"Until Now" is a compilation of original instrumental music by Franklin J. Smith. I took the idea of improvisation, composing songs about my parents, my father-in-law, my children, and my beautiful wife. The titles came from traits that I admired or something special that I shared with each loved one. Although much of the music is layered, the predominant voice of the piano was often written in one take.
Two tracks, in particular, "caden150bpm" and "tomorrow," hold a special place in my heart. The bird part in "Tomorrow" was written by my then 3yr old daughter, Emma. And I vividly remember the ultrasounds when my wife was pregnant with Caden. His heart always beat at a constant 150bpm. So, everything was produced at 150bpm, including the final tempo of the track.
